Eldra and Mixture Boy
Eldra knew she would never amount to anything. So to overcome her complex she had a baby child. A very small reliable baby child with an awkward sort of stare. She named the child Mixture Boy. When the boy was very young he developed floating crystals that caused limited exceptions. As he grew older the crystals became zebras that were often covered with tinsel and gourmet sausage.
Eldra washed and cleaned most of the day, although the majority of her time was spent spotting unusual birds and shoplifting items that had little or no value. Her usual categories were brightness and delay, although the countless pygmies in the basement were often quite aware of her busy intrusions.
One day Eldra picked up Mixture Boy and took him outside to play. He had never been outside before, so the experience was odd and bewildering. It wasn't long before his arms and feet began to vibrate with furious tension. Eldra laughed with joy because the vibrations felt silly. She picked up a tiny piece of periwinkle and held it up for Mixture Boy to see.
When he saw the periwinkle, Mixture Boy looked through the mirrored surface of reality and gazed out into the world. He made instant eye contact with everyone he would meet for the next one hundred years. As his mental state became more focused, Eldra looked up into the sky and began to count.
"One, two, three, six, fifty, seven, two hundred, two, seven, eighty-nine, sixteen, twelve..."
"Why are you counting?" asked Mixture Boy.
"I am counting because that is the basis for our state of evolution that is yet to be," she replied.
Then Eldra placed the periwinkle on Mixture Boy's tongue and the game began. She ran and ran as fast as she could until her feet became parched with slabs of margarine temper. Mixture Boy stooped and slid on the tracks left by the margarine and raised his tiny hands to the sky. As his hands grew larger and larger he suddenly became the refined pigment of a tedious magnificent. Flowers began blooming from his eyelashes that were wafting and shifting in the changing wind.
"Time and distance are one and the same," Mixture Boy declared. "Never shall they slouch on couches with individual pouches."
Eldra retrieved a chewy biscuit from her blouse pocket and they both began to munch. As the triumphant flavors began to consume them, they jetted off in a greenish purple vapor that propelled them into outer space.
When they eventually stopped, they could no longer be accounted for because their molecular properties had jumped upon a really nice long-distance coaster.
The coaster sped off in loops that eventually led to Birmingham.
The cows and the cheese that fell from the trees gave them steady infusions and wept in the breeze.
